The Detroit Lions coaching search continues and so does the Lions staff looking to hire predominantly coaches that have played in the NFL. On Thursday the team hired former quarterback Bruce Gradowski as an offensive assistant.

Now they plan to interview former All-Pro running back Darren Sproles for a position on their staff.

Sproles, who played 15 years in the NFL, spent time with the Chargers, Saints, and Eagles. He and Dan Campbell just missed each other in New Orleans. Sproles won a Super Bowl with the Eagles and made the Pro Bowl three times as well. he retired in 2019.

As Zenitz reports, Sproles has received some interest from NFL and college teams. It’s not noted as to which teams those were and if he interviewed with any of them. It’s not noted as to which position he is expected to interview for either.

The Lions still have running backs coach and assistant head coach Scottie Montgomery on staff, so it may be something that relates to an assistant role. The Lions did not have an assistant running backs coach role this past season, but they have in the past.

We’ll see where things go and if Sproles joins the staff. He would be a great mind for David Montgomery and Jahmyr Gibbs to have around.
