NFL executives reportedly expect the Detroit Lions to be one of the 4 teams that have interest in Rams receiver Cooper Kupp

On Monday night Cooper Kupp took to Twitter and announced that the Los Angeles Rams have informed him that they will be trading him.

This made everyone in the sports world wonder where he could wind up. We here at AtoZ Sports Detroit felt that Kupp in Detroit makes a lot of sense as he could be a very useful WR3 for Detroit and there’s the connection with Jared Goff and Brad Holmes. Plus Kupps’ agent Ryan Tollner is also Goff’s agent.

It turns out we’re not the only ones who feel that way. ESPN NFL insider Jeremy Fowler went on Sportscenter early Tuesday morning and that league executives have told him that there are four teams that are currently expected to be interested in Kupp. The Steelers, Chiefs, Commanders and the Lions.

“One league executive brought up Detroit to me because of the connection with Jared Goff. They came into the league together and made Pro Bowls together. That’s the type of instant connection together that could be fun.”

We wrote up a piece about what kind of trade the Lions could make for Kupp and how they could restructure his contract, but at the end of the day, the thing that seems more likely is that Kupp’s contract might be a little too expensive for the player he currently is and teams may be scared of that.

That’s why the best bet might be that Kupp is released by the Rams ahead of free agency and he could potentially wind up in Detroit that way. We’ll have to see what happens over the next month or two, but right now we can at least say that league execs believe there will be interest coming from Detroit.
