Christian Mahogany has earned the confidence to replace injured Kevin Zeitler

With the news that veteran Kevin Zeitler will miss Saturday night’s NFC Divisional Round matchup against the Washington Commanders, the focus at right guard now shifts to Christian Mahogany.

The sixth-round rookie from Boston College previously proved he was ready. He got the start at left guard in the Week 16 win over the Bears, replacing injured Graham Glasgow. Now he moves to his more natural right guard spot, where he thrived being the “Dirtbag” at BC for years.

Head coach Dan Campbell has full confidence in Mahogany and how he will play against a talented Washington defensive front. But he’s also got a Plan B in case Mahogany unexpectedly struggles.

“Yeah, we thought that was a good showing by (Mahogany) and it’s worthy of – if it goes there – to give him a shot. But then there again, we have (Kayode Awosika) Yode as well. He’s played snaps, played playoff snaps for us and we trust him as well. So, we feel like we’re in good hands.”

Mahogany allowed one QB pressure in the win over Chicago. He thrived as a run blocker, and that’s a key for getting David Montgomery comfortable in his return from missing weeks with a knee injury.
