Injury updates on Aidan Hutchinson, Alex Anzalone offer Lions more postseason hope

USA Today

The Detroit Lions have been riddled with injuries all throughout the season and while some of the news has been disappointing, a recent report from Ian Rapoport of NFL Network shares some potential positive news for the upcoming playoffs.

Star rusher Aidan Hutchinson, out since October with a broken leg, is still tracking a possible return if the Lions reach the Super Bowl. Hutchinson was well on his way to contending for Defensive Player of the Year before the injury against the Cowboys.

Linebacker Alex Anzalone, out since midseason with a broken forearm, is also on track to return for the playoffs. Anzalone has been the heart and soul of the Lions defense and has 56 tackles before suffering the injury against the Jaguars.

Running back David Montgomery, who got a third opinion on his MCL that may have prevented his season from being over, will now rehab and potentially return for the Divisional Round of the playoffs.

Getting that first-round bye becomes even more important for the Lions as they would have that extra week of rest and Montgomery would then have the opportunity to play again.
