Way back in February of 2004 the Detroit Pistons were a pretty good team, but just needed one more piece to get them over the hump and make them a championship team. They got that piece when they traded with the Atlanta Hawks to get Rasheed Wallace. They won the championship a few months later.

Since then the idea of a “Rasheed Wallace type move” has been a big thing in Detroit. Any time one of the cities teams is doing pretty good before the trade deadline, you’re damn near guaranteed to hear someone say “this team just needs to go get their Rasheed Wallace.” It’s code for “They’re just a player away.

The Detroit Lions have been one of the best teams in the NFL this year and they are surging right now, but after the loss of Aidan Hutchinson, everyone has been talking about how this team needs one more guy. The Lions traded for Za’Darius Smith at the trade deadline and it looks like he fully understands what he can be in Detroit.
