Lions make multiple roster moves ahead of Titans game, Can veteran help their pass rush?

It’s Saturday again and it’s time for the Detroit Lions weekly roster moves. The Lions will be without yet another pass rusher with Josh Paschal missing this week with an illness, so naturally some of the moves made reflect that. Here’s what the Lions did.

Elevated Al-Quadin Mahammad from practice squad

Lions head coach Dan Campbell spoiled this one on Friday when he said Muhammad was going to get some work. There’s actually been a lot of talk about Muhammad from Campbell since the Lions added him ahead of their game against the Cowboys. Here’s what he said this week:

“Yeah, you don’t have to worry about a guy playing the game with some nastiness and aggressiveness, strength. He’s going to set an edge, he’s going to play hard, he is competitive, he’s a finisher, and he’s got a little bit of rush ability. He’s more of a kind of push the pocket power, and then plays off of that, but it’s more about him coming in to do some of the dirty work and just bring your hard hat, bring your lunch pail type guy. He’s going to give us a good day’s work is really what we’re anticipating, really all we need out of him.”

Muhammed has been a starter in the NFL before. He started for both the Colts and the Bears for full seasons. Most recently he was on the Cowboys practice squad.

Elevated Shane Zylstra from practice squad

Another week with Zylstra getting elevated. Surprisingly we’re not seeing another defensive end getting brought up. Zylstra has some real pass catching ability and can block. It’s going to be interesting to see if they utilize either thing this week.
