Jameson Williams suspension: Lions WR makes decision on appeal, releases statement

Detroit Lions wide receiver Jameson Williams has decided on whether he’ll appeal his suspension by the NFL. On Thursday, Williams announced he will not appeal, meaning he will miss the Lions’ next two games.

“This week, I was notified by the NFL that I have been suspended for a violation of the Performance Enhancing Substances Policy,” Williams said in the statement. “The news came as a complete surprise that I am still trying to understand.

“I don’t take supplements or vitamins and I am overly cautious about even taking over-the-counter medicine. At no time have I ever taken something in an attempt to cheat or look for an unfair advantage. I understand that I am responsible for everything that goes into my body and I have to take accountability in this instance.”

Williams continues: “I have nothing but love and respect for this game, my teammates, coaches, the Lions organization and the city of Detroit. It is disappointing to accept this suspension, and it will hurt me to be away from the team as they prepare this week. So out of respect to my teammates, this will be the last time I address this matter.”

Lions offensive coordinator reveals what makes Jameson Williams dangerous

Williams will miss the Lions’ Week 8 game against the Tennessee Titans and the Week 9 game against the Green Bay Packers. He should be eligible to return after the Packers game and play in the Week 10 game against the Houston Texans.

Williams is having a strong start to the 2024 season as he’s second on the Lions in receiving yards (361) and receiving touchdowns (3) through six games.

“Defenses don’t want to single him out because he will make them pay,” Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson said of Williams’ speed impacting how defenses challenge Detroit’s offense, per the team’s official website. “They’re not as fast as him, it’s as simple as that.”
