An Allen Robinson resurgence in Jameson Williams’ absence is totally possible for the Lions

Right now things are up in the air with Detroit Lions receiver Jameson Williams. We don’t currently know if he’s going to do his suspension or if he plans to appeal. If the suspension does go through, the Lions have a plan.

“I would say (Lions WR) Allen Robinson (II), I mean we just went through the walkthrough, I mean, he’s going to take on a heavy load here, too. Talk about a pro, man, I mean, he’s locked in. Everything we just went through, I mean, it’s meticulous, which fires you up.”

Looks like we’ll finally be seeing Allen Robinson taking the field and getting some targets for the Lions this Sunday if Williams can’t play. It feels like we’ve been waiting for this for years. Anytime Robinson was free agent, the talk was always about getting this Pro Bowl player home.

Robinson hasn’t been the guy that he once was for a bit, but looking back on his last few years, there looks like a lot of reasons for that. Let’s go back to 2021.

His final year with the Bears came a year after putting up 1,250 yards and 6 touchdowns with Mitchell Trubisky and Nick Foles at quarterback in 2020. In 2021 the Bears changed to Justin Fields and Fields struggled to be accurate and really didn’t throw the ball very much. Andy Dalton didn’t do much more at all. You could tell all year that Robinson did not wan to be there.

Robinson signed a three year deal with the Rams the next year and the idea was that being with Matthew Stafford would be a big help to get Robinson back to where he was and that was happening and then both Stafford and Robinson got hurt at damn near the same time and missed the rest of the season.

The Steelers traded for Robinson and then he played with arguably the worst quarterback in the NFL in 2023. Kenny Pickett was legendarily bad last season. Robinson went to the Giants, but they have a young receiver group that just kind of phased him out.

In Detroit Robinson has everything he needs to have a big bounce back. He’s got a great quarterback, a solid offensive coordinator and a good head coach. I’m not sure he’s ever had all that stuff at the same time.

Basically I don’t think that when you look at his stats over the last few years, that you get the full story on what’s going on with his career. I don’t think he gets back to Pro Bowl Robinson, but he can definitely prove on Sunday that he can be a reliable player that can do some numbers when needed.
