Report: NFC contender interested in Haason Reddick trade

The New York Jets may not need long to find a taker for disgruntled pass-rusher Haason Reddick.

The Detroit Lions have checked in with the Jets about Reddick, according to Jeremy Fowler of ESPN. It is not clear how serious the Lions’ interest is  or whether they are simply doing due diligence on potential edge options.

The Lions are in need of a pass-rusher after Aidan Hutchinson’s gruesome season-ending injury. While they are likely going to be forced to pursue stopgap options, there is certainly a chance Reddick could fit what they need. He has double-digit sack totals in each of his last four seasons, including 11 last year for the Philadelphia Eagles.

Reddick was traded to the Jets before the start of the season with one year left on his contract, supposedly after telling the team he would not demand a new deal. However, Reddick failed to report to training camp and has not reported to the team over his contract situation.

Reddick might be a fit on paper, but the Lions may have to give him a multiyear extension to make a trade work. That might be further than they are willing to go given their short-term need.
