Lions make a truly questionable move ahead of their Monday Night Football game against the Seahawks

The Detroit Lions have a big game against the Seattle Seahawks on Monday Night Football in a few hours, but first they’ve made a few roster moves. Wait, they didn’t? Seriously?

This is a pretty rare move for the Lions to make. Most teams are elevating players from the practice squad every week, the Lions are choosing to not do that this week. What makes it even more interesting is that the Lions also have an open roster spot after moving Ifeatu Melifonwu to injured reserve during the week.

So the Lions will go into this game with 52 players. What makes it questionable is that this team is short on safeties with Melifonwu and potentially Brian Branch missing the game with an illness.

They have Brandon Joseph and Loren Stickland holding down the extra spots. If either guy goes down, the Lions are going to have to get creative. Then on the offensive line, the Lions have no backup at center if anything happens to Graham Glasgow. That’s why it would have made sense to bring up Kingsley Eguakun.

Now, there could be some good news to be had here. While Branch was added to the injury report on Saturday with a Doubtul designation, the fact that the Lions didn’t move a safety up could mean that Branch will indeed play. We’ll see when inactives come out soon.
