Brian Branch downgraded for Week 4 with an illness

USA Today

Detroit Lions safety Brian Branch was set to play in the Week 4 matchup on Monday night after clearing the NFL’s concussion protocol. However, the team updated his status and it’s not trending well for Branch.

The team provided an update that indicates Branch is now doubtful for Monday night’s game against the Seattle Seahawks with an illness. That info breaking out on Sunday morning is not good at all; no player ever listed with a “doubtful” status has ever played under head coach Dan Campbell.

If Branch can’t go, undrafted rookie Loren Strickland and second-year Brandon Joseph will fill in at safety. The Lions placed Ifeatu Melifonwu on I.R. on Saturday.
