The winless New York Giants will be hoping that the addition of a former Super Bowl champion can help swing their fortunes.

Veteran kicker Greg Joseph is signing with the Giants, Joseph’s agent Brett Tessler announced on Tuesday. Joseph is getting signed from the practice squad of the Detroit Lions, which he had just joined earlier this month.

The 30-year-old Joseph is a five-season NFL veteran who has kicked for three different teams (Cleveland, Tennessee and Minnesota). He was also a member of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers team that won Super Bowl LV in the 2020 season. While Joseph was behind starter Ryan Succop in Tampa Bay and never actually made a game appearance, he still got a ring when the Bucs won it all as a member of their practice squad.

Joseph has gotten much more run over the last few seasons, though, going 24-of-30 (80.0 percent) on field goals and 36-of-38 (94.7 percent) on extra points last year for the Minnesota Vikings. The Giants are in need of a new kicker after ex-Pro Bowl selection Graham Gano was injured under controversial circumstances in Week 2. Joseph, a Vikings starter for the last three seasons, should now be able to slot right in for them.
