Dan Campbell on waiving injured WR Antoine Green: ‘We didn’t want to do this’

USA Today

The Lions waived/injured wide receiver Antoine Green Monday following the concussion he suffered during last week’s preseason game against the New York Giants. Cutting a player is never an easy task for an NFL team and Green was no exception. Head coach Dan Campbell expressed how tough it was to see Green suffer the injury and to have to come to the decision to waive Green.

“We certainly had a number of doctors look at his scans and we felt like this was the best thing on our end, for him, and we needed to do this,” Campbell said. “So that’s where it’s at. We didn’t want to do this. We love the kid, he’s grinding, he’s working, but that’s a tough injury, it is.”

Green was competing for the No. 3 wide receiver role behind Amon-Ra St. Brown and Jameson Williams. With Green being waived/injured, if he is not claimed by another team, he will revert to the Lions’ injured reserve list, ending his season unless the two sides come to an injury settlement.
