From tryouts to working with the first team, another Lions receiver has a real shot to make his first 53-man roster

Davis has come a long way this offseason. The Cardinals signed him to a futures deal in January and then waived him three days after the 2024 NFL Draft. Then a couple weeks later he was one of 15 players that tried out for the Lions during rookie minicamp. He was the only one signed.

When OTAs and mandatory minicamp started up, Davis was clearly one of the biggest stars of that period. He was making play after play during that time and there was a lot of noise around the idea that he could make the roster.

After a slower start to camp, the Lions have started to give Davis some reps with the first team and he’s delivering on those reps. You can see the above 50-yard touchdown from Tuesday’s joint practice with the New York Giants. That wasn’t Davis’ only touchdown of the day. He made a nice contested catch in the end zone that you can see on the Lions’ highlight reel from yesterday.

With the receiving corps as is, Davis has a chance to make the Lions 53-man roster. He can also add some good special teams ability to the mix as well. He was a return man for the Michigan Panthers when he played in the USFL, so he has some experience with the current kick off format.

We’ll see where things go. A big performance on Thursday night could help seal the deal for him.
