Penei Sewell beams at knowledge and talent of Jahmyr Gibbs

Offensive linemen and running backs typically have to work hand-in-hand. The front five open the holes for the backs and it’s up to the backs to find those holes and scurry through them. So when one can easily compliment the other, it’s make life that much easier for a football team.

Detroit has such a pairing and the latest evidence came Tuesday when offensive tackle Penei Sewell was asked about running back Jahmyr Gibbs.

“I think the knowledge more and more mentally than physically because, I don’t know if anyone knows it, but that guy is physically gifted,” Sewell remarked about Gibbs. “He’s able to go do a lot of things that not a lot of people can do.”

Gibbs is coming off a season in which he totaled 1,261 yards on 234 touches, including 52 catches. He scored 11 times, including ten rushing touchdowns.

Sewell, with his work helping Gibbs score those touchdowns, recently signed a contract that made him the highest paid offensive tackle at $28 million per year. That was until the Tampa Bay Buccaneers did so with Tristan Wirfs at $28.1 million per year.

Gibbs flashed big time in his rookie season and many took notice. Sewell is only one example but you can see the gleam in his eyes when he was talking about. That’s a great sign.
