The Detroit Lions continue to bring players in for workouts during training camp. Earlier this week they worked out former a Cowboys’ starting edge rusher and an FCS award winning offensive lineman. Up next is one of the best defensive players from the UFL. DC Defenders linebacker Anthony Hines has worked out for the Lions.

The 25-year-old Hines went undrafted in 2021. The big reason he went undrafted is because his time at Texas A&M was rough. He only started for one season in college and that was 2019. He tore his ACL in 2018 and then opted out of the 2020 season due to Covid-19.

He did wind up getting a shot in the NFL though. He signed with the Cowboys as an undrafted free agent. He was ultimately waived and spent the 2021 season on the Rams practice squad. They waived him in 2022 and headed over to the XFL to play for the Defenders.

Last year he had a big season for the Defenders in the newly formed UFL. He finished the season sixth in the league in tackles with 63. That also led the Defenders. He also finished fifth in the league for tackles for a loss with six.

Hines is someone that may not make the team now, but could be someone to watch come late August when the Lions are looking to fill out their practice squad with some players they’d like to take an extended look at. The Lions are not the only team interested though. The Browns also brought him in for workout.
