The Detroit Lions are signing a former Super Bowl winner before training camp. The signing comes as the Lions add talent to help them compete for a championship this season.

The Detroit Lions are looking for a Super Bowl in 2024

The Lions came up a half short of making the Super Bowl last season. The Lions will head into the 2024 season as one of the favorites to win the NFC crown. If the newly extended Jared Goff continues where he left off last season, the Lions will have a chance to slide past the San Francisco 49ers in 2024.

The Lions’ offensive and defensive units will be formidable, but their special teams left much to be desired in January’s NFC Championship. On Monday, the Lions made a signing that boosted their special teams.

According to Justin Rodgers with the Detroit News, the Lions are signing Ben Niemann:

“The Detroit Lions are bolstering their linebacking and special teams depth ahead of next month’s training camp, signing veteran Ben Niemann.

The move was confirmed to The Detroit News by a team source.

The six-year veteran spent the first four years of his career with the Kansas City Chiefs after going undrafted out of Iowa. He signed with Arizona as a free agent in 2022 and appeared in 17 games for the Cardinals, including nine starts, setting a career-high with 70 tackles.”

The Chiefs initially signed Niemann in 2018. He helped the Chiefs win Super Bowl LIV over the 49ers. He’s recorded 239 tackles, two sacks, and one forced fumble in his six-year NFL career. The six-foot-two, 235-pound linebacker has spent time with the Cardinals, Tennessee Titans, and Denver Broncos. At 28, he has appeared in 86 NFL games and started in 21.
