Free agent defensive tackle D.J. Reader will visit Lions this week

The Detroit Lions are in need of help on the interior of their defensive line. One guy that’s been linked to them since the start of the leagl tampering period is Bengals defensive tackle D.J. Reader. Good news, Reader will visit the Lions this week on a free agent visit.

Reader is not a big pass rushing threat, but he is a very good run stopper and a space eater that can eat up blocks and help the Lions get home. He’s a day one starter for the Lions if they’re able to sign him.

Reader has spent the last four seasons with the Bengals and spent four years with the Texans before that. He was a big part of the Bengals Super Bowl run in 2021. In 2023 he had a strong season and PFF graded him out at 82.3 for the year. Just a hair down from his 87.3 grade in 2022. This would be a huge get for Detroit.
