Dan Campbell opens the door for Bruce Irvin to play vs. Saints

USA Today

The much-maligned Detroit Lions pass rush could get a shot in the arm in Week 13 against the Saints. Head coach Dan Campbell opened the door for Bruce Irvin to play as a potential practice squad elevation.

In his weekly radio visit with 97.1 The Ticket in Detroit, Campbell indicated it could be time to try the veteran.

“Potentially,” Campbell told the hosts. “We’re looking at everybody. And he’s a guy that we’ve got our eye on.”

Irvin would be a shot-in-the-dark potential solution for Detroit, which has two sacks in three weeks. The 36-year-old Irvin signed with the Lions practice squad prior to the Week 11 matchup against the Bears. Irvin has bounced around a lot; the Lions are his sixth team since 2018. He’s managed just 3.5 sacks in the last three seasons.
