Detroit Lions injury report: Week 5 vs. New England Patriots

SideLion Report

Heading into a fairly rare road trip to Foxboro, here is the final Week 5 injury report for the Detroit Lions.

The 1-3 Detroit Lions will make a rare trip to take on the also 1-3 New England Patriots on Sunday. Former Lions head coach Matt Patricia came back to Bill Belichick’s staff last year, and he has been elevated to the offensive play-calling duties this season. So the game has that extra layer.

Here is the Friday Week 5 injury report, with game statuses, for the Lions.

Detroit Lions Week 5 injury report

WR DJ Chark (ankle)-Out
WR Quintez Cephus (foot)-Out
DE Charles Harris (groin)-Out
RB D’Andre Swift (ankle/shoulder)-Out
DL John Cominsky (wrist)-Out
OT Matt Nelson (calf)-Out

WR Amon-Ra St. Brown (ankle)-Questionable
WR Josh Reynolds (ankle)-Questionable
OG Jonah Jackson (finger)-Questionable
C Evan Brown (ankle)-Questionable
LB Chris Board (knee)-Questionable
OG Kayode Awosika (hamstring)-Questionable

TE T.J. Hockenson (hip)-No designation
OT Taylor Decker (knee)-No designation
C Frank Ragnow (foot)-No designation

Chark will miss his second straight game, as will Swift (which was expected for him).

Harris popped up with a groin injury on Thursday, and going from limited then to no practice on Friday sealed that he’d miss Sunday’s game.

Cominsky will miss a third straight game after wrist surgery. It seems possible he’ll be back after the Week 6 bye.

Cephus left last week’s game with a foot injury, and did not practice all week.

Nelson has been the Lions’ third offensive tackle in jumbo packages, playing a total of 40 snaps so far this season.

But there is good news. Jackson got in a full practice on Friday, and appears set to return after missing the last three games with a finger injury. St. Brown missed last week against the Seahawks with an ankle injury, but he seems set to return on Sunday against New England after practicing Friday.

The Lions have downgraded a player from questionable two of the last three weeks on Saturday–Jackson to doubtful in Week 2, Chark to out in Week 4. So watch out for that possibility again, but it appears those listed as questionable for this week are trending toward suiting up.
