A former Detroit Lions cornerback, waived by the team over the weekend, is scheduled to be arraigned Tuesday on four charges in connection with an accident that seriously injured his teammate.
Wayne County prosecutor Kym Worthy charged Alex Brown with two counts of operating while under the influence causing serious injury and two counts of reckless driving causing serious injury on Monday. Brown is expected to be arraigned on Tuesday

Brown was arrested around 2:13 a.m. Sunday after a crash on southbound I-75 near I-375 in Detroit after he allegedly struck a 27-year-old Detroit man’s car head on, causing injury to his legs.
In a statement released by the prosecutor’s office, Brown is accused of being “intoxicated and driving at a high rate of speed on the wrong side of the freeway” at the time of the accident.
His agent, Jordan Byrd, declined comment Monday.
Former Lions tight end Charlie Taumoepeau, a passenger in Brown’s car, was transported to a local hospital with injuries. Prosecutors said Taumoepeau, who was not identified by name in their release, was removed with the jaws of life, placed on a backboard and in a cervical collar and transported to a local hospital.
LIONS CAMP OBSERVATIONS: Long drives, limited points an offensive staple
His agent, Cleo Floyd, said Taumoepeau is believed to have broken ribs but should make a complete recovery.
“All signs point to him being OK,” Floyd said. “It’s not serious, it’s not critical, but he was injured.”
The Lions waived Taumoepeau with a non-football injury designation after practice Monday. Taumoepeau will revert to the reserve/non-football injury list once he clears waivers.
“We are aware of the situation from Sunday morning involving Alex Brown,” the Lions said in a statement. “Alex was waived from the team Sunday afternoon and Charlie Taumoepeau is receiving proper medical care following injuries sustained from the incident.
“Driving under the influence is a matter we take very seriously. We as an organization extend our thoughts and support to the victim and his family during his recovery.”
