Darius Slay remains a very popular player in Detroit even though the Pro Bowl cornerback has been with the Philadelphia Eagles for the last five seasons. Slay sends the love right back to Lions fans, and he made sure everyone knows the door is open for a potential return.
In the latest episode of the St. Brown Podcast featuring Lions All-Pro wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown, Slay indicated he wants to play at least one more year. The 34-year-old has one year left on his contract with the Eagles but is a potential salary cap casualty.
If he isn’t in Philadelphia, Detroit’s second-round pick back in 2013 wants to come back to the Lions in 2025.
“I love Detroit, I’ve got nothing but love for Detroit. That’s my second home!” Slay enthused.
Slay noted that he still has deep ties to Detroit and enjoys his visits. He did express a preference to stay with the Eagles, the reigning Super Bowl champions.
“For sure the two spots I would love to always be at is Philly or Detroit,” Slay told the St. Brown brothers.
It would be a wonderful end to Slay’s career story arc. His exile from the Lions by former coach Matt Patricia was a very tangible turning point in how the team and the fans felt about the coach and the direction of the Lions franchise.
