Jahmyr Gibbs: Lions Running Back Dynasty Outlook

Yardbarker

Jahmyr Gibbs has proved this season he’s one of the best running backs in the NFL. The Detroit Lions were heavily scrutinized for taking him 12th overall in 2023, but he has proved everyone wrong with his usage as a runner and pass catcher. Gibbs’ dynasty outlook is one of the highest in the league.

Jahmyr Gibbs: Lions Running Back Dynasty Outlook

Current Performance

Gibbs ran for 1,412 yards in 2024 with 16 touchdowns. He added 52 receptions for 517 yards and four touchdowns as a receiver. Both yardage totals were career highs for the Alabama product as he went on a tear in Detroit’s offense. Gibbs proved to be one of those most consistent fantasy football players to have in 2024.

In standard fantasy leagues, he finished as the RB3 in total points and points per game with 269.9 points and 16.9 points per game. For PPR leagues, he was the RB2 in total points with 316.9 points and 19.8 points per game. He only trailed Saquon Barkley in both formats and Derrick Henry in standard leagues.

Gibbs was a threat anytime he touched the football. His speed was something nobody could contain, and his vision of the field was second-to-none. He could turn a five-yard run into 15+ yards each carry and showed no signs of slowing down. Even with David Montgomery healthy for most of the season, Gibbs was the star of the show.

Jahmyr Gibbs Dynasty Price

KeepTradeCut lists Gibbs as the RB1 for dynasty fantasy football and the seventh-best player. Rightfully so, because he has the perfect combination of youth and speed. The only other running back in the same tier as him is Bijan Robinson, and he rounds out the top 10 of all players.

Fantasycalc provides a list of all trades involving Gibbs. If you thought you’d give up a king’s ransom for De’Von Achane, it’s an even bigger package for Gibbs. In order to even think about trading for him, you have to either have an elite running back of your own, like Barkley, or multiple firsts.

Even with Montgomery in the backfield, Gibbs could be a top-five player in all of fantasy football in 2025 with his potential.

Jahmyr Gibbs Contract and Salary

Gibbs will be going into the third year of his rookie contract in 2025. He carries a base salary of $1.03 million with a cap hit around $4.87 million. His cap hit could quadruple, and he would still prove to be worth the money he is being paid. As long as Gibbs continues to perform at this level, he’ll be with the Lions for as long as he wants.

Concerns About David Montgomery

Since Gibbs was drafted, there have been concerns about whether or not he would reach his full potential because of Montgomery’s presence. While they averaged a 50/50 split in terms of carries per game, Montgomery’s presence shouldn’t deter anyone from either making a big splash or holding onto him.

Montgomery is the guy who will come in for short-yardage situations and goal line work. That’s it. Other than those scenarios, the Lions’ backfield belongs to Gibbs. Everyone in Detroit knows Montgomery is there to complement Gibbs… not the other way around.

What to do With Jahmyr Gibbs in Dynasty Leagues

If you can find someone who is willing to ridiculously overpay for him, by all means get the bag. However, his value should only continue to increase. He’s still several years away from his prime and is only getting better.
