Another Detroit Lions assistant coach is getting a chance to potentially climb the coaching ladder with another team. Special teams assistant coach Jett Modkins interviewed with the San Francisco 49ers for their special teams coordinator opening.

Modkins did the interview virtually on Sunday, per the 49ers. The son of Vikings running backs coach Curtis Modkins (who also coached in Detroit), Jett Modkins has been with the Lions since the start of the Dan Campbell regime in 2021. Some of his duties include working with second-team All-Pro return specialist Kalif Raymond.

The 49ers fired their special teams coach, Brian Schneider, immediately after their disappointing season ended. Modkins is the first reported candidate to interview for the position.
