Lions get big news regarding fear of Jameson Williams’ possible arrest for concealed weapon

A few weeks back WXYZ Detroit put out a story that there was an internal affairs investigation into a traffic stop in which Detroit Lions receiver Jameson Williams was cuffed and put in the back of a squad car for having a concealed weapon in his brothers car and then let go with no charges. The investigation was to make sure that Williams was not let go because of who he was.

That investigation has concluded and there will be no charges coming Williams way per Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy.

“Because the case law is silent regarding the specific issue, and the legislative intent of the CPL statute does not support charges under these facts, no charges will issue in this matter, and the warrant is denied.”

“While no case has identical facts, we can look at similar facts, if possible, to aid us in our decision making. We really could not recall any case that had facts that mirrored this case. Every case is fact specific. As always, we apply the alleged facts to the existing law. And the applicable law and its accompanying legislative history is far from clear.”

“We have looked at this case thoroughly and objectively. We did not consider that Mr. Williams is a Detroit professional athlete in our decison making. We have charged Detroit are athletes before and would not have hesitated to do so again if the facts of the case could be proven beyond a reasonable doubt. When it comes to charging decisions, we do not take into consideration who the potential defendant is, how much power and influence they have or how beloved they may be. We deal with the facts and the law only.”

So there you have it. We can all put this one behind us and if you had any concern that an arrest warrant might pop up for Williams, don’t be concerned anymore.
