Anyone else notice that the Detroit Lions seem to sign a different linebacker or linebackers every week? They’ve signed six different linebackers since August. They love this position and they continuously bring guys in. Last week it was Ezekiel Turner and plus they signed Abraham Beauplan to the 53-man roster as well. They just waived Beauplan moments ago and opened up a roster spot.
We don’t know what the timetable is on Malcolm Rodriguez yet, but we do know that Jalen Reeves-Maybin is out for the next three games. The Lions may be in the market for another linebacker to join the squad and one guy just became available after a shakeup in Seattle.
This is kind of a weird move by the Seahawks because Dodson hasn’t really played badly at all. He’s been decent for Seattle this season and has 71 tackles, two sacks, two pass breakups and a forced fumble. He started all nine games for the Seahawks this year and that comes a year after starting 10 games for the Bills and putting up a crazy 89.5 Pro Football Focus grade on the year.
There’s maybe some questions about coverage and he could be better, but he’s not allowing teams to just beat the hell out of him. He has a 73.3 coverage grade right now. I truly can’t find a reason why the Seahawks are making this move.
This is a guy that can come in and play a role for the Lions immediately. He’s not going to start here with guys like Alex Anzalone and Jack Campbell ahead of him, but this is big upgrade over everyone else that’s on the team.
Here’s the thing, he has to clear waivers first and that’s going to be pretty hard to see happen. It can happen, but there’s bound to be a team out there that wants his services and the Lions can put in a claim, but they’re second to last on the waiver wire. If no team decides to get him, then the Lions could score there. Keep an eye on the Bills. It wouldn’t be shocking to see them want him back.
