Jameson Williams latest suspension may drastically alter his future with the Lions

You just absolutely hate to see this. Things were finally coming together for this kid after the gambling suspension and the injuries. Lions GM Brad Holmes just talked weeks ago about how much growth he had seen from Jameson Williams as a player and as a man. All that just feels like it’s out the window at this point.

While Williams has really shown what he can do as a player this year, the question of “is this really worth it” is there. I hate that it’s there just as much as you do, but this is year three and the setbacks, that we all thought were finally gone, are still here to stay.

Now the next question has to be “what does the future look like?” Williams is still just 23-years-old and the expectation was that he would finish out a big year and then sign a decent contract extension and everyone would live happily ever after.

Now we’re in spot where if you’re the Lions, do you sign that extension? I don’t think you do. It just doesn’t feel safe to do it. Williams is awesome when he’s able to play, but that’s the one thing he hasn’t shown that he can do all the time. The best ability is availability and this guy has been unavailable a lot.

This doesn’t mean I think the Lions should cast him off. I am in no way saying that. As a matter of fact I am as far away from saying that as possible. What I am saying is go prove it Jamo.

Prove in year four that you can play an entire season with no setbacks, no suspensions, no fines, no nothing. Then watch the Lions write you the fattest check you’ll ever get. If he can’t do that, then I hate to say it, but the idea of letting him walk becomes an actual thing that the Lions will have to think about.

With all this said, I still do believe that there is growth from Williams as a person because I’ve seen it. I know I’m not the only one. He just needs to continue that growth and everything is going to be fine.
