Here’s some cool news late Saturday night before the Detroit Lions take on the Dallas Cowboys. The Lions are signing running back David Montgomery to an extension that will keep him in Detroit until 2027 per Fox 2″s David Montgomery.

Montgomery signed with the Lions ahead of the 2023 season and he was initially supposed to be in Detroit until the 2025 season. He’s hit the ground running in Detroit and the Lions are opting to keep him in town.

In 2023 Montgomery finished the year leading the Lions in rushing yards with 1,015 yards and 13 touchdowns. So far this year Montgomery has 271 yards and four touchdowns through four games.

The Lions duo of Montgomery and Jahmyr Gibbs, aptly nicknamed Sonic and Knuckles, will be together for some time now. Look for them to continue to run all over the NFL this year and beyond.

The Lions continue to take care of their players like no other NFL team seems to do. They make sure they sign their guys and don’t ever leave any of them wondering if they’ll get a new deal. This is huge for the culture the Lions are building.

Update: More details have been released.
