NFC North roundup after Week 2

USA Today

The NFC North had some interesting results for Week 2 and now a surprise team sits alone in first place in the division after two games. Let’s recap the week that was among the foursome.

Lions stumble at home vs. Buccaneers

A rough day on offense wasted a 4.5-sack performance for Lions defensive end Aidan Hutchinson as Detroit fell at home to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers 20-16. The Lions sit at 1-1 as they head to desert next week in Arizona to take on the Cardinals, big 41-10 winners over the Rams Sunday.

Vikings stun 49ers again, move to 2-0

The Vikings did it again to the 49ers. They pulled off the upset win last year on Monday Night Football. This time, in the early window in Week 2, the Vikings defense cratered 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy yet again, sacking him six times en route to a 23-17 win. Minnesota starts 2-0 and sits alone atop the NFC North after two weeks. The Vikings host the 2-0 Texans next week.

Malik Willis leads Packers to home win over Colts

No Jordan Love, no problem, at least on Sunday. The Packers’ defense stepped up, holding Colts quarterback Anthony Richardson to just 204 passing yards and picked him off three times while Packers running back Josh Jacobs torched Indy’s defense to the tune of 151 yards on 31 carries. The Packers won their home opener 16-10 to get their first win of the season. The Colts drop to 0-2. Green Bay heads to Music City next week to face the Titans.

Caleb Williams sacked seven times in primetime loss to Texans

It was a night to forget for No. 1 overall pick Caleb Williams. The Texans got to the Bears’ quarterback seven times and picked him off twice for good measure in a 19-13 win to move to 2-0. The Bears had just 205 yards of total offense in the loss as they fall to 1-1. A rough start to his NFL career for Williams as he has zero touchdowns and two interceptions through two games. Chicago heads to Indianapolis next week to take on Anthony Richardson and the 0-2 Colts.

Current NFC North standings

  1. Minnesota Vikings 2-0
  2. Detroit Lions 1-1
  3. Chicago Bears 1-1
  4. Green Bay Packers 1-1
