Dan Campbell sent a strong message to the Lions that could help the team realize this big goal

What’s the one thing you’ve heard the Detroit Lions talk about a lot this summer? It has to be the Super Bowl right? That’s the big goal for this team and they have had no problem sharing that at all.

Lions head coach Dan Campbell said he wanted the “whole enchilada” back in June. Then you mix in a smattering of the players saying similar things and cap it off with Lions GM Brad Holmes making it ultra clear that his expectations for the team this year is to win the Super Bowl this past weekend.

It’s a lot of talk for sure. Is it too much? It seems like Campbell might be thinking that way because on Monday morning he had a big message for the team.

“It’s funny because I just told the team, ‘Let’s not talk about it anymore.’ And it’s just this. Of course we do, who doesn’t? But now, we’re to the point now where that doesn’t even matter anymore. What does that do? Does nothing. Now it’s about the steps to get to there.”

The time for talking is done and now its time for the Lions to buckle down and get to work. Campbell has laid out the steps for the team and the first goal is go win the divsion again to make sure they can get a home playoff game. Then after that they want make sure the seeding is good to get more home playoff games. Then they need to take care of business in those and then worry about the Super Bowl.

It’s all about the steps. Everyone knows what the end goal is, but it’s even more important that the Lions remember exactly what Campbell said after the NFC Championship game last January. It’s going to be twice as hard to get back. Everyone is coming for this team and they need to get on the right track and know that they can’t just do what they did last year and expect that to just work. They need to find the next level.

While the talk of Super Bowl is cool, the talk of the team knowing that they need to hit that next level is like 30 times more important than saying you want to win the thing that everyone wants to win. The Lions have right mindset at the right time.
