The Detroit Lions are quickly losing depth in their trenches in the preseason. The Lions will be without an offensive lineman for the season following an injury sustained in their preseason game against the New York Giants on Thursday.
The Detroit Lions have lost a few players in recent weeks
On July 30, the Lions announced they would be without defensive lineman John Cominsky for the 2024 season. The third-year defensive end suffered an MCL injury near the beginning of training camp and will have to undergo surgery.
Earlier this week, head coach Dan Campbell said cornerback Emmanuel Mosely suffered a torn pec in practice. The Lions expect him to miss most of the season, but there is a chance he could return for the postseason. Mosely was in contention to grab the starting nickelback spot in the preseason.
Connor Galvin is out for the season
According to Jeremy Fowler with ESPN, second-year offensive tackle Connor Galvin suffered a season-ending MCL tear during Thursday night’s game. He will have surgery to repair the injury.
The Lions signed Galvin as an undrafted free agent last year. The Baylor standout was on the Lions practice squad for the 2023 season and signed a futures/reserve contract in January. At the time of the injury, Galvin was listed as the Lions’ No. 3 right tackle.
The Lions are expected to be one of the favorites to win the NFC this season. Their starting lineup is stacked. But as injuries hit during the regular season, the Lions will need solid depth on the roster who can help the team win games.
