The Detroit Lions and New York Giants participated in joint practices on Monday and Tuesday.
Then the fights began. And they happened again and again and again.
The NFL announced on Wednesday that both organizations were being docked $200,000 for their actions.
Joint-practice fights have long been a tradition at NFL summer training camps and it’s hard to see them subsiding, despite Wednesday’s discipline from the league.
According to NFL.com’s Kevin Patra, the only two teams not taking part in joint practices this summer are the Kansas City Chiefs and Las Vegas Raiders.
It’ll be interesting to see how much of the bad blood between the Giants and Lions carries over to their opening preseason showdown on Thursday when New York hosts Detroit at 7 p.m. ET at MetLife Stadium. The teams won’t play each other during the regular season, meaning Thursday will be the final chance for both sides to take out any extra frustration on each other.
