Evidence shows how unnecessary Giants vs. Lions training camp fight really was

NFL teams are avoiding two days of joint practices because of how many fights can happen. The New York Giants and the Detroit Lions decided to do it this week, and it quickly went south. There were already fights on day 1, on Monday, but Tuesday was particularly astonishing.

The most aggressive fight was between Giants rookie wide receiver Malik Nabers and Detroit Lions safety Kerby Joseph, as you can see in the tweets above.

It was a completely unnecessary move by Nabers, when it appears the play was already over. That created a sequence of punches from side to side.

Even though there were fight episodes, Giants head coach Brian Daboll said on Monday that it was a positive activity after all.

“Both sides were competitive and got a lot out of it,” Daboll said.

“A couple of guys who go rogue and start something but it’s not a big deal,” complemented Lions head coach Dan Campbell.

It feels like the head coaches are fine with the players’ tough attitudes, even if it eventually can create some unfortunate outcomes.

Now, players from both sides will have two days to clear their heads. On Thursday, they will face off again — and this time around, it’s a preseason game at MetLife Stadium, at 7pm (EDT).
