Way too early Detroit Lions 2025 three-round NFL mock draft

I’ll be honest, I got jealous of seeing everyone else continue to put out their 2025 mock drafts and I has so much fun covering the draft this year. I wanted to get in on the action. So here’s my one and only contribution to the way too early mock draft scene. I won’t be back doing these until after the season. Here’s three rounds for you:

I’ll be honest, Arizona’s Tatairoa McMillan or Missouri’s Luther Burden are the dream picks right now, but they’ll be long gone before 32. Wells is someone that will be available in that area as things stand right now. He had a big season for South Carolina in 2022, but then dealt with an injury in 2023. He just transferred to Ole Miss and figures to be their top receiver in 2024.

Wells is a 6-foot-1 and 210 pound receiver that can do a lot of the things that Josh Reynolds did for the Lions. He can make big catches for first downs and can go up and get the contested catches as well. He’s a lot faster than his 40-yard dash numbers would suggest too. He can get away from guys.

Not everyone is going to be behind me on this because it would likely push Hendon Hooker out, but here’s a guy that can grow with the Lions and take over for Jared Goff some day. He’ll be just 22-years old on draft day.

The Lions can then take their time with him and get him ready. I hate to keep the cliche going, but look how well time worked out for the Packers with both Aaron Rodgers and Jordan Love. Don’t forget about the Chiefs with Patrick Mahomes.

Hooker can’t be that guy because by the time Goff is ready to be done, Hooker will likely be 30-years-old at that time. This draft provides the opportunity to take advantage of pretty good quarterback slipping down the board.

Yet another transfer. Moore was big for UTSA last year. He finished the season with 14 sacks and 17.5 tackles for a loss. Now he heads to Texas with a chance to be their lead edge rusher in 2024.

I asked our college football editor Travis May about Moore and here’s what he had to say:

“He should be a potential All SEC Edge Rusher this season. Absolutely game wrecking dominance at UTSA with elite pressure numbers and sacks. Should be in the mix for day two pick next year for sure.”

We’ll see if he lasts this long after a solid season. Right now he’s going to Detroit in the fourth.
