The second annual BT Jordan Pass Rush Retreat is going down over the past few days and multiple Lions defensive linemen joined some of the league’s most elite pass rushers for the work.
James Houston and rookie Mehki Wingo were there representing the Lions. Some of the other guys from around the league that participated are Von Miller from the Bills, Rashan Gary from the Packers, Hassan Reddick from the Jets, Mathew Judon from the Patriots, Jeffery Simmons from the Titans, Montez Sweat from the Bears, Jonathan Greenard from the Vikings and Brian Burns from the Giants. That’s just to name a few. There were a lot more there.
The retreat is run by former Michigan State pass rush coach Brandon Jordan. In addition to his time with the Spartans, he has also worked with the Seahawks and was a defensive assistant for Ohio State. Jordan just accepted the Bill Walsh internship and will join the Broncos’ coaching staff for the 2024 season.
The retreat is a three day event where players work on strength and conditioning, hand movement, bending and footwork. There’s also film study and more.
James Houston is expected to have a major bounce back after missing much of the 2023 season. Last summer Lions’ defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn said Houston had been working on some new moves. Looks like he continued that work with Jordan this week. We’ll see how much that work pays off very soon.
As for Wingo, he’s expected to get some work off the bench this year and could maybe be more in the future.
Wingo will report to camp in Allen Park tomorrow and then Houston will join on Tuesday. We’re should see both in action during the preseason.
