NFL defensive coordinator declares Lions offense hardest to prepare to play

The Thanksgiving Day matchup between the Detroit Lions and Buffalo Bills back in the 2022 season was quite an offensive battle. The two teams combined for 50 first downs and almost 750 yards of total offense combined in Buffalo’s 29-26 win.

That game left quite an impression on new Bills defensive coordinator Bobby Babich, who was Buffalo’s LB coach at the time. In a recent episode of the Centered on Buffalo podcast, Babich praised the Lions and Ben Johnson while harkening back to that game at Ford Field.

Babich, who has coached in the NFL since 2011, was asked about the most difficult offense to game plan against, and it didn’t take long for a response.

“It’s funny, we were just having this conversation today,” Babich said. “I think Detroit does a great job — and this was from years ago — they do a lot of things, and they do them well, which is hard to do,” Babich said. “That’s hard to do, and it’s hard to prepare for.”

Detroit is 17-6 since that loss to Buffalo, including a 5-1 run after that game to close out the 2022 campaign. The two teams meet in Week 15 this coming season, and Babich’s new gig of trying to stop Ben Johnson’s offense won’t be any easier than it was the last time.
