But Davis doesn’t come without some concerns, though. Not only is he coming off a down season in terms of his coverage numbers, he also has an injury history that has led to him never playing a full season during his career.
As a result of those concerns, Sporting News’ Vinnie Iyer named Davis to his “All-Overpaid Team” for 2024. Here’s what he wrote:
The Lions didn’t make their veteran corner spending work last season, so they got aggressive again, trading for the former Buccaneer. However, he’s been shaky with durability issues of late, and there’s a good chance rookie first-round Terrion Arnold will be their better starter.
According to Over the Cap, Davis is making $14.8 million per year on his current contract, which he signed with his former team, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The Lions restructured the deal after acquiring him, which lowered his cap hit to $9.8 million after converting $6 million of his salary to a signing bonus.
Detroit Lions quarterback Jared Goff has gone from being talked about as overrated to a dark horse candidate for the league’s most valuable player in a week.
On Monday, less than a full week after an ESPN analyst called Goff’s offseason extension a mistake at its price, NFL.com’s Judy Battista named the Lions quarterback as one of her eight “dark horse MVP candidates.”
Coming off a division title and a solid offseason that saw the team lock in several members of the core for several years while adding to the defense, the Lions seem well-placed to be among the league’s best teams this season.
However, that date will be exclusive to Lions Loyal Members (season-ticket holders), as will two other dates. Here’s the full breakdown of Detroit’s practices that will be open to fans (all times are ET):

“All Ragnow does is buckle his chin strip and perform at an elite level year after year, often playing through injuries — including a throat fracture a few seasons ago, which sounds scary and excruciating,” writes Dan Parr. “Instead of bowing down to him all offseason, some folks had the nerve to speculate after the Lions’ NFC Championship Game collapse that he might be retiring, which did not sit well with Frank. ‘I was frustrated,’ he told the Detroit News last month at an event for his Rags Remembered Foundation. “It was kind of annoying. All I said was I’m going to need some time to heal up the day after the game. That was my intention and then it took off, which was kind of annoying, but it is what it is.” Despite being PFF’s highest or second-highest graded center in three of the past four seasons and a charitable person off the field on top of that, Ragnow still doesn’t get the widespread respect he deserves. I’m rooting for that to change, pronto.”
