There’s no better time than now for the Detroit Lions.

After a surprising Super Bowl run that turned them into the best underdog story of the year, the Dan Campbell-led Lions are eager to prove to everyone that their miracle run to the NFC Championship was anything but a fluke.

Their pursuit of a first Lombardi trophy has them linked to some great playmakers, but everyone knows that defense was what killed the Lions’ chances of making the Super Bowl in February.

As the team ramps up their preparations for the upcoming NFL season, Aidan Hutchinson is one of the most important pieces for the Lions’ Super Bowl aspirations. The Michigan alum put up a strong performance last season, and his presence in the defensive line was key for the team’s overwhelming pass rush and run defense.

While he’s cautious about the rest of the NFC North, he’s optimistic that the Lions should be able to get within a punch of the Super Bowl again.

It’s still technically offseason, but Hutchinson and the rest of his Detroit Lions teammates are already preparing for another grueling season of smash-mouth football.

John Maarkon of SI.com talked to Hutchinson during the Area 313 Celebrity Golf Scramble to discuss the event as well as the upcoming season for the Lions.

The former Michigan Wolverine is confident that his team has what it takes to stand out and win:

“It’s gonna be great, it’s gonna be great. I think it’s gonna be a special year,” Hutchinson explained. “It’s hard to forecast what our record’s gonna be and this and that, but I really feel confident in our guys and what we’ve got going with our culture and everything like that.”

It’s nice to see Hutchinson express support to the team’s approach to creating a contender, but even he knows that his performance will be critical to their success. He showed out last season, completing 11.5 sacks and 36 solo tackles while forcing three fumbles and seven pass deflections.

Detroit Lions fans will be expecting to see more of the same from Hutchinson in September, and he’ll be committed to bringing the Lions to New Orleans for Super Bowl LIX.
