With the signing of Jake Bates, I think a roster move could be coming at the kicker position. Last year, Michael Badgley was released prior to training camp and the team took Riley Patterson and John Parker Romo into camp.
According to NFL reporter Aaron Wilson, the Detroit Lions will be signing former UFL kicker Jake Bates when he’s finally available to sign with NFL teams next week. Per Wilson, Bates had interest from the Lions, Green Bay Packers and four other NFL teams.
The Detroit Lions are coming off a season in which they were one of the best teams in the NFL, and that figures to be the case once again with the team returning most of that roster and making some key additions.
But that isn’t exactly reflected in the rankings from Pro Football Focus’ Jim Wyman and Dalton Wasserman, who placed the combination of the Lions’ starting offense and defense at No. 6. Granted, that spot is a far cry from where Detroit has been ahead of most seasons and it’s a good ranking, but it’s still too low.
Kelvin Sheppard is a pretty demanding guy. The Detroit Lions linebackers coach was very demonstrative and verbose as a longtime NFL player, and he brings that same passion and energy to his coaching.
That is not second-year linebacker Jack Campbell’s style. Campbell is quiet and difficult to read from afar, something Sheppard has probably never been accused of on either count. Yet the coach is clearly enamored with the player and they’ve found a great balance in their divergent personalities.
8. Najee Harris/Jaylen Warren, Pittsburgh Steelers
7. Kyren Williams/Blake Corum, Los Angeles Rams
6. Saquon Barkley/Kenneth Gainwell, Philadelphia Eagles
5. Derrick Henry/Justice Hill, Baltimore Ravens
4. Bijan Robinson/Tyler Allgeier, Atlanta Falcons
Ok, so Gibbs and Montgomery have to be top-three…..let’s continue.
3. Christian McCaffrey/Elijah Mitchell, San Francisco 49ers
2. Raheem Mostert/Devon Achane, Miami Dolphins
Yep, Gibbs and Montgomery are No. 1. Here’s what Knox wrote.
