The Detroit Lions could use some safety help after they released Tracy Walker and didn’t bring C.J. Gardner-Johnson back. They’re going to be hosting a very intriguing draft prospect when they bring in Utah safety Sione Vaki.

The Lions have spent a lot of time with this kid throughout the process. They saw him at the Senior Bowl and then had a formal meeting with him at the combine. Then they attended his pro day. Now they’re bringing him in for a top 30 visit. That’s every stage you can see a player at.

Vaki is a good safety, but the most intriguing thing about him is that he hasn’t been a safety all that long. He came into Utah as a running back and was converted to safety. That did not stop the Utes from still using him on offense. Last year Vaki had 51 tackles, two sacks, two interceptions and two pass breakups. He also ran for 317 yards and two touchdowns and caught 11 passes for 203 yards a three touchdowns.

Top that off with Vaki being a kick returner in high school and you have a player that could potentially be the Lions next Jamal Agnew. He’s totally open to that as well.
