The Detroit Lions could use some depth in their receiving corps, and the Los Angeles Rams may have a potential solution for them.

Bleacher Report’s Maurice Moton feels that the Lions should target Rams wide receiver Tutu Atwell in a trade, suggesting that Atwell could be available for a late-round draft pick after Los Angeles signed fellow wide out Demarcus Robinson.

Detroit just lost Josh Reynolds to the Denver Broncos in free agency, and considering Reynolds served as a pretty dependable No. 2 guy behind Amon-Ra St. Brown this past season, the Lions will miss him.

Right now, it looks like Detroit is depending on third-year receiver Jameson Williams, the Lions’ first-round pick from 2022 who has played in a grand total of 18 games thus far due to injuries and a gambling suspension.

Williams did show some promise late in 2023, but he has accumulated just 25 catches through his first two NFL seasons, so the Lions are taking a fairly big risk in putting all their eggs in his basket.

That’s where Atwell comes into play.

Atwell isn’t necessarily a No. 2 option himself, but he at the very least would provide some depth behind St. Brown and take some pressure of of Williams heading into 2024.

The 24-year-old, who played his collegiate football at Louisville, was selected by the Rams in the second round of the 2021 NFL Draft.

He didn’t log a single catch during his rookie campaign, and in 2022, he registered 18 grabs for 298 yards and a touchdown. Atwell finally began to carve out a role this past year, hauling in 39 receptions for 483 yards and three scores.

The 5-foot-9 speedster could end up being a valuable weapon for Jared Goff and the Lions’ offense, and the cost to acquire him would probably be minimal.
