The Lions don’t earn any compensatory draft picks for 2024

USA Today

The NFL announced the 34 total compensatory draft picks for the 2024 NFL draft on Friday. As expected, the Detroit Lions did not receive any of the extra picks.

Comp picks, as they are commonly known, are awarded to teams that have net salary losses in free agency from the prior offseason. Teams that spend more money on outside free agents than they lose to other teams don’t get comp picks, and that group includes the Lions.

Two special compensatory picks were awarded in 2024 for having minority coaches hired to a higher position with another team. The Rams and 49ers were awarded picks at the end of the third round.

Detroit last earned comp picks in 2022.
