Who’s the next Melifonwu for the Lions? 4 early breakout candidates for the 2024 season

Detroit Lions safety Ifeatu Melifonwu kind of came out of nowhere in 2023. The Lions drafted him with a third-round pick in their first draft and he had been so quiet that it felt like maybe that pick was a bust. Melifonwu just couldn’t find his spot. Then the Lions put him in the lineup and in five starts he racked up two picks, seven pass breakups, three sacks and three tackles for loss. 

Just a huge breakout and that made a big difference. In 2022 it was James Houston who came up and notched eight sacks down the stretch. Who will it be in 2024? I’ve got four early candidates, here they are:
