Lions 2024 NFL draft report: Adisa Isaac, EDGE, Penn State

USA Today

Up next in the Lions draft report for 2024 is an underappreciated pass rusher.

Brad Holmes and his front office have proven they are very capable of putting together great draft classes. They have had major hits on every day of the draft, but especially on Day Two. This roster isn’t in desperate need of much because of his work, but they do have some positions that need to be addressed.

This offseason, they should be focusing on getting better play out of their defensive backs, adding depth on the defensive line, and building out the wide receiver room.

These scouting reports should introduce you to some of the names that Lions fans could hear during the three days of the NFL Draft.

Traits and Skills

Strength

When watching Adisa Isaac on his 2022 film you saw him trying to overpower tackles but struggling to do so. In 2023 that issue was corrected and became a dominate force when watching his film. It speaks to his work ethic and it shows he can handle the size of NFL tackles.

Run Support

Adisa Isaac’s best trait may be the run support he provides. While his production isn’t anything crazy, he forces runners to change lanes and drives them back into the heart of the defense. The Lions love their run defense up front, perhaps Isaac can provide some depth in that area.

Tackling

Isaac demonstrates a great tackling ability both in the backfield and in pursuit. Not often do you see an edge defender who can be a sound tackler but he has. It is a trait that has been growing with him and it projects well to keep doing so at the next level.

Trait to Develop

Pass Rush Plan

Isaac relies on his size and strength to get ahead of offensive tackles, but as soon as he develops a plan to use his bend ability, he can take the next step. It is important to note that he has shown he can have this trait; he just needs to be consistent. Aaron Glenn has shown he can coach up this defensive front to be efficient and not waste any moments, he would be a perfect fit for Isaac.

Fit within the Lions Roster

Adisa Isaac is one of those prospects where you can tell he hasn’t reached his potential yet. When you watch his from 2022 to 2023, you see the strength grow into his frame, and he is getting more comfortable using his size. He would be a great piece to add opposite Aidan Hutchison to help this Lions defensive front. His pass rush ability will get teams’ attention, but the run support he provides should especially have the Lions focus.
