The Lions finished the season 12-5 and won the NFC North division, their first division championship since 1993. They also won their first playoff game since 1992, a 24-23 victory over Matthew Stafford and the Los Angeles Rams, before winning a second playoff game a week later against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The season came to an end with a 34-31 loss to the San Francisco 49ers in the NFC championship game.
