The Detroit Lions are just days away from hosting a playoff game against the Rams. That’s why it’s a little strange that out of nowhere, Lions corner Jerry Jacobs sends out this tweet.
Normally you might not think anything of it, but the Lions recently released Isaiah Buggs and Bruce Irvin and the public was initially notified of their releases via Twitter when both sent out tweet thanking Detroit. Could the Lions be looking to move on from Jacobs?
It would make a little bit of sense. The Lions had recently taken Jacobs out of the starting lineup and replaced him with Kindle Vildor and Khalil Dorsey. The Lions also have to make a spot for James Houston on their 53-man roster. Still, it would seem odd to release a guy that’s started for you right before the playoffs.
The other thing is that Jerry Jacobs popped up on the injury report on Wednesday and that caused him to miss practice on Thursday. There’s a solid chance that injury may have simply ended his season and he’s thanking Detroit for being there for him this year.
Jacobs is still on the roster at this point. Both of these are theories and we’re simply speculating. We will update this piece as soon as more comes in on the story. Even if it’s a simple misunderstanding. We’re hoping for the best for Jacobs. While he’s struggled a bit this season, the Lions should not be looking to give up on him.
