The NFL announced their Pro Bowl teams on Wednesday night and the Lions have a good handful of players that made the final cut. 5 in all. Here’s who will be representing the Lions at the Pro Bowl if the Lions aren’t still in the playoffs that is:
Aidan Hutchinson: Hutchinson received a lot of votes this year. While he hasn’t gotten the sack total Lions fans hoped he would get, he’s affected every quarterback the Lions have face with the pressures that he brings. Only two players have more pressures and both of them are also going to the Pro Bowl. This will be Hutchinson’s first.
Penei Sewell He’s the best right tackle in football this season. It’s hard to argue against the idea that he was the best tackle altogether. Fortunately the voters saw it that way and he was voted in. He’s allowed one sack all season. Hell of a year for Sewell. This will be his second Pro Bowl.
Frank Ragnow: Ragnow is a differences maker on this team and everyone knows it. He’s the linchpin of their entire offensive line. He’s also probably the best center in football right now. Much deserved. Now it’s time to get him that Walter Payton Man of the Year award.
Sam LaPorta: The Lions are sending a rookie to the Pro Bowl. Not just a rookie though, a rookie tight end. LaPorta has had one of the biggest rookie years a tight end has ever had in NFL history and the voters are recognizing him for that. LaPorta is fourth in receptions among tight ends, sixth in receiving yards and first in touchdowns.
Jalen Reeves-Maybin: The special teams aces is getting a Pro Bowl nod. This guy really deserves it for sure. You rarely see a special teams tackle that wasn’t made by Reeves-Maybin.
Jared Goff as second alternate: This will be the fourth Pro Bowl for Goff. He went last year as a late addition. This year Goff was voted in as alternate. He’s had a pretty good season for the Lions and people have taken note. Goff is third in passing yards, fourth in touchdowns, eighth in completion percentage and eighth in passer rating. Not to mention the Lions are 11-4 and won their first divsion title in 30 years with him under center.
Amon-Ra St. Brown as first alternate: I don’t know how this guy is not voted directly onto the Prow Bowl. He made his first Pro Bowl in 2022 as a late addition. He should have been an original ballot guy this year. St. Brown is having a career season. He’s third in receptions, fifth in receiving yards and fifth in touchdowns.
Jahmyr Gibbs as a first alternate: The rookie makes his first career Pro Bowl as an alternate after he received a surge of fan votes. Gibbs was the second most voted for running back in the NFC. We’ve come a long way from the days when the Lions drafted a running back too high and fantasy nerds complaining that the Lions weren’t using him right. Gibbs is currently tied with Christian McCaffrey for second place in yards per carry with 5.4
David Montgomery as a fifth alternate: Montgomery has been every bit the player that Lions fans hoped he would be after the team moved on from Jamaal Williams and signed him in free agency. He’s currently seventh in rushing yards and seventh in rushing touchdowns. A solid first season for Montgomery.
Kalif Raymond as a fourth alternate: Raymond is an alternate as a return man. He’s been great in the return game since coming to Detroit. We’ll see if he winds up being able to play in his game.
Alex Anzalone as a fifth alternate: Anzalone is having the best season of his career and Pro Bowl voters took notice. A big honor for him.
Jonah Jackson as a third alternate: Jackson was an alternate a couple years ago and now he is again.
