The Detroit Lions and Denver Broncos have some familiar faces between them. Dan Campbell, the head coach of the ions, was once an assistant for Sean Payton. Alex Anzalone, the Lions’ best linebacker, was once a linebacker for the New Orleans Saints, playing for Payton. So, it has now come full circle in some way.
Coming into this national TV game, which is slated to be played on Saturday, Anzalone shared a story about his former head coach, and it’s really bizarre.
Payton is known for doing things to motivate his players, and no, I am not talking about Bounty Gate. He has been known for doing other legal things to motivate his players for some time now. And Anzalone shared one of the best ones.
“I think the one that most notably sticks out is when we walked into the team meeting room, and he just had a clear, acrylic box full of hundreds,” Anzalone said this week via The Detroit News. “It’s full of hundreds. I don’t even know how, but apparently, it was how much money you’d make if you made a run in the playoffs. So, you can probably do the math on that. I don’t know where the money came from.”
That would surely motivate me to do my job better. Sean Payton must have done something in about Week 7, when the Broncos were 1-5 but started the first win of a five-game win streak to get back into the mix.
Since then, the Broncos are 6-1 and now have a shot at the playoffs. Hopefully, Payton motivate the team in a different way before the Lions game.
