Herbert has sat out the Bears’ last five games with an ankle and shin injury. Chicago also expects to play quarterback Justin Fields on Sunday as well.

Chicago Bears RB Khalil Herbert: Efficient NFL Career

Khalil Herbert has spent the entirety of his three-year career with the Chicago Bears. The former sixth-round draft pick averaged 5.3 yards per rush attempt before suffering an injury in Week 6. This season has marked Herbert’s first as the clear starter, with former teammate David Montgomery signing with the Detroit Lions. However, Herbert played well in a timeshare from 2021-2022, rushing for 1,164 yards and six scores. The Virginia Tech product is also a solid pass catcher. He has snagged 33 passes for 236 yards and two touchdowns during his NFL tenure.

Chicago Bears: Backfield by Committee a Real Option on Sunday

The Chicago Bears could prefer to approach Sunday’s game with a running back-by-committee approach. The opening-day starter, Herbert, could get eased back into game action while fellow back D’Onta Foreman remains part of the gameplan. Foreman has run for 351 yards and three touchdowns in the team’s last five games. The 27-year-old has rushed for at least 80 yards in the past two weeks.

The Bears will likely use whatever approach keeps former first-round pick and potential franchise quarterback Justin Fields upright. The dual-threat passer has missed the past four games with a thumb injury. He has thrown 11 touchdowns to six picks in six games this year.
