Late last month, former Tennessee Vols quarterback Hendon Hooker made it clear that he’s not a fan of UT wearing black cleats with their all-white road uniforms.
“Whoever is picking the black socks and cleats is crazy,” wrote Hooker in an Instagram comment under a post announcing the Vols’ uniform combination for the Kentucky game.
Hooker, who was selected in the third round of the 2023 NFL Draft by the Detroit Lions, isn’t totally against the black cleats. He just doesn’t care for them with the all-white uniforms.
The former Tennessee quarterback, however, wouldn’t mind them if paired with a unique alternate uniform combination.
Hooker was asked this week by Vols Wire how he’d feel about the Vols wearing black cleats, dark mode pants, white jerseys, and the dark mode helmet as a road uniform combination.
“That would be hard,” said Hooker to Vols Wire. “I would not be opposed to that. That would be a cool look. They should definitely bring those out or still go white helmets, as well.”
Tennessee has one more road game remaining this season — on November 11 against the Missouri Tigers. Maybe that’s a uniform combination that Tennessee’s players can suggest for that game.
If Hooker is at the UConn game this weekend (the Lions are off this week), perhaps he can put a bug in some players’ ears about possibly wearing this road look against Missouri.
